”Juomustus” is an ancient form of winter fishing, which has been used for centuries in Lapland.
Before heading for the fishing nets, you are told how the nets can be inserted under the ice and what tools are required. We check the nets together and the prey instinct of even first-time visitors is bound to awake when the nets cork-line vibrates in their hands and soon the silvery whitefish glints in the ice hole. Usually beautiful whitefish are caught in the lake.
After the exiting fishing experience it’s time to to cook and taste the fresh fish in the kota.

Meet the Magical Shaman of Lapland
Within about a half-hour drive from Levi, in the shade of the Pallas-Ylläs National Park lies Lake Jerisjärvi. On the edge of the Northern lake, in Keimiöniemi, lives the Shaman of Lake Jerisjärvi.
Jari Rossi was born and grew up by Lake Jerisjärvi right in the Keimiön Koukkaus peninsula, where his ancestors have been living since the 19th century. His parents' work forced Jari to leave Lapland for few years but after growing up he decided to return to Lapland to the land of his ancestors.
Still he practices the same sources of livelihood as many generations before him. These consist old school fishing methods, cooking with open fire, hunting and storytelling.
With wilderness guide Jari found his passion to work by organizing authentic experiences for everyone to enjoy Lapland. At present the company offers everything from ice fishing and hunting trips to meeting the real Shaman.
